Natural remedies for BPH (Enlarged Prostate)

The prostate is a small gland located around the urethra. It has the purpose of giving semen to the sperm. Because of this, it is a part of the reproductive system. With age, a man’s prostate may be bigger. If it gets too enlarged, a person may develop a disease called BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia). This may lead to: difficulties urinating, urinary leakage and infections. Luckily, there are natural remedies that may solve this problem.

1.    Saw palmetto comes from a palm tree. Its main purpose is to reduce the urinary symptoms. It has been used for centuries for this purpose. According to several studies, saw palmetto may be effective in relieving BPH symptoms. However, researchers found that in bigger studies, saw palmetto didn’t have a bigger effect than placebo. 
2.    Pygeum comes from the African plum tree. People have used it for relieving urinary symptoms from ancient times. This, natural remedy is highly used in relieving BPH symptoms in Europe. Sadly, there are no a lot of studies about this remedy, so experts cannot tell is it very effective. According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, men should use it. However, a minor study proved that it can make you go to the bathroom less often if you pair it with other herbs. 
3.    Beta-sitosterol is a mixture, gathered from several plants. All of them contain a compound called sitosterol. This is a cholesterol-like substance. Many studies found that this compound is effective in relieving BPH symptoms. It can also increase the strength of urine flow. There are no confirmed side effects of using this remedy. However, doctors don’t know what effect it will have if you use it for a long time.
